Over the years I have decided an authentic, transparent life was the way I wanted to live my life. After seeing the impact of leaders keeping secrets and not being accountable, I understood God wants us to be the light in this world. However, there are three key lessons I have learned with being transparent.

The first is to never allow people to take advantage of your transparency through disrespect. I often advise transparent people to understand their openness comes with a price. People will always try to act out and say crazy stuff. Close the door. Quickly. Always maintain healthy boundaries and do not be afraid to let people know where the boundary is located.

Second lesson is to stand faithful in your choice. Many will not understand why, but it is not their business to understand because only you have to live with it.

Third, the rewards are greater than the downside; we as leaders should have some level of transparency because it breaks the “holier than thou” cycle and gives people a realistic view of a walk with Christ. It will also make one mindful about what is said about others.

It is possible to be transparent. Not perfect. Broken. Real. Yet, still anointed. God designed it to be this way.

Reflective Question: Where are you in your walk of transparency before God, yourself, and ones you have submitted to (accountability)?

Reflective Scripture: Proverbs 11:4
