Do Not Settle!
If you’re reading this, you know that my first name is LaQuetta. There have been a myriad of mispronouncations. What I have learned through my arduous journey is to ensure that people pronounce (and spell!) my name correctly. This is an important example of setting boundaries and advocating for myself. I could have settled at any point and just resigned to the fact that this would always happen. However, just because something always occurs does not mean that it’s okay.
We have to challenge people to do better. We should not settle on what is happening if this does not align with the truth. In the challenging, we stop selling ourselves short of being seen the way we show up, to be considered for opportunities, or whatever the case may be, do not settle.
Toni Morrison states: “Don’t let anybody, anybody- convince you this is the way the world is and therefore must be. It must be the way it ought to be.”
Remember: Just because something happens all of the time doesn’t mean that all is well. Do not sell yourself short. We have to do better and call people up higher. Be encouraged and do not settle. 🫶🏾
