The Butterfly in the Sky documentary was excellent! I highly recommend.

πŸ“˜πŸŒˆI watched Reading Rainbow growing up. The impact of this show continues in my life today. I am a bibliophile for life and took intentional steps to be sure that my children loved to read.

πŸ“˜πŸŒˆ LeVar’s insistence on authenticity versus the show’s desire for consistency in his look: β€œI’ve been told my whole life that there was something intrinsically wrong with me or undeserving of me because of the color of my skin. And I think that made me especially recalcitrant to give in.”

πŸ“˜πŸŒˆ I had forgotten about him being in the Cameo β€œWord Up” video. πŸ˜‚ He also was in one of my favorite shows: Murder She Wrote. And of course, most people know that he was on Star Trek. Back then, it was so cool to see some of the first black people in Space on TV. I remember using my banana clip as the visor playing around the yard as his character on Star Trek. πŸ˜‚

πŸ“˜πŸŒˆ I highly recommend this show. Seeing this documentary reminds us of how far we’ve come and gives flowers to those who pioneered the way for children’s learning, education, and reading today.

πŸ“˜πŸŒˆ I appreciate LeVar Burton as a human being. While growing up in Birmingham, books were my escape from the tragedies of life. Books helped me to understand that the world was bigger than I was currently experiencing. Books helped me to find answers to questions that I had no safe place or space to ask. Today, I strive to do the same for others. πŸ’™
