Book Completions and Reviews for July 2024
Hey Everyone! Here are the book reviews for July 2024. This was an excellent reading month, filled with a variety of books. As a form of self-care, I intermingle different kinds of books to ensure that my soul stays stable and well.
What is the Slave to the Fourth of July by Frederick Douglas. The book is a speech that was given on 5 July 1852 to the Rochester Ladies’ Anti-Slavery Society. This quote from the excerpt is an excellent summary of the subject: “Douglass exposes the hypocrisy of America’s claim to Christian and democratic ideals in spite of its legacy of enslavement. Personal and political, Douglass’ speech helped inspire the burgeoning abolitionist movement, which fought tirelessly for emancipation in the decades leading up to the American Civil War. “What have I, or those I represent, to do with your national independence?”
